Uncontained Art
Uncontained art is a cultural initiative dedicated to port cities, the diverse cultures found in them and their overlapping stories.
It is therefore located inside a shipping container, which is installed each time in a different port city with the help of a local host organization. It is envisioned as a facilitator and an ongoing project with the aim to visit port cities and connect people and ideas. It will always depart from its hometown, Rotterdam and return there to share the experiences and stories gathered along the way. The container can be seen as an immigrant on itself.
It’s first route connected Rotterdam with Genova and had a focus on the theme of migration. It hosted the photography installation Port Narratives with the works of a Genovese (Valentina Fusco) and a Dutch (Florian Braakman) photographer. We also facilitated art workshops in collaboration with local organizations, that connected kids from both cities. Local musicians performed outside of the container, inviting the neighbors. Through the exchange of ideas new art projects are created. A recent example is a series of video interviews by Wim Havens with immigrant store owners in Genova, sharing their story.
Our local partners are the Zones Portuaires and the MuMa museums, in Genoa. We participated in the Maritime festival in Rotterdam, which is organized by our local partner the Maritime museum.
