Can photography bring hazy memories back into focus?
Can it bring light into schatered and fading glimpses of past events?
Can it create a safe space between the photographer and the subject and eventually be used as a tool in the process of trauma healing?
These are some questions that have risen during my work for the Cacotypes project of Dora Kotsi Felici. The photographs have references to the baroque light and composition of Artemisia Gentileschi paintings.
They have been presented in various forms (as calotype prints, printed in clothes during performances, printed on fabric for art installations) as part of a bigger project concerning sexual and systemic violence.
